Kennedy Center Honors

The Kennedy Center Honors, an annual American award, recognizes performing artists for their lifetime contributions to American culture, honoring individuals in music, dance, theater, opera, motion pictures, or television. The Honors has redefined America’s perception of its artistic legacy and reinvented the way this nation rewards its artists. The annual Honors telecast serves for millions of American art lovers as the year’s crowning event, paying tribute to our nation’s preeminent artists with performances by the great stars of today who have followed in their footsteps. 

Roles & Responsibilities 

  • Talent management and honoree coordination

  • Creative development and storyline ideation

  • Photo and archival research

  • Event, artist, and production logistics

  • Venue and building operations oversight

  • Budget management and cost tracking

  • Security coordination

  • Primary liaison between external production company and venue

  • Building out event production staff 

47th Kennedy Center Honors (2024 - CBS)

Country music singer and actor, Sturgill Simpson,  performs the Grateful Dead's classic song "Ripple" with a special posthumous tribute to Jerry Garcia and Phil Lesh.

The 2024 class of Kennedy Center Honorees  includes: acclaimed director and filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola; legendary American rock band the Grateful Dead (Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Bobby Weir); blues rock singer-songwriter and guitarist Bonnie Raitt; jazz trumpeter, pianist, and composer Arturo Sandoval; and The Apollo, receiving a special Honors as an iconic American institution.

46th Kennedy Center Honors (2023 - CBS)

Cynthia Erivo brings down the house with her soulful rendition of "Alfie" in a heartfelt tribute to 2023 Honoree Dionne Warwick.

 

The 2023 class of Kennedy Center Honorees includes: actor and comedian Billy Crystal; acclaimed soprano Renée Fleming; British singer-songwriter producer, and member of the Bee Gees, Barry Gibb; rapper, singer, and actress Queen Latifah; and singer Dionne Warwick.

45th Kennedy Center Honors (2022 - CBS)

Chloe Flower and the Dance Theatre of Harlem perform for Tania León.

The Kennedy Center Honors is proud to celebrate the 45th Honorees for lifetime artistic achievements: acclaimed actor and filmmaker George Clooney; contemporary Christian and pop singer-songwriter Amy Grant; legendary singer of soul, Gospel, R&B, and pop Gladys Knight; Cuban-born American composer, conductor, and educator Tania León; and iconic Irish rock band U2, comprised of band members Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.

44th Kennedy Center Honors (2021 - CBS)

11-time Grammy winner, Brandi Carlile, performs the iconic song "River" for Joni Mitchell.

The Kennedy Center Honors is proud to celebrate the 44th Honorees for lifetime artistic achievements: operatic bass-baritone Justino Díaz, Motown founder, songwriter, producer, and director Berry Gordy, Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels, legendary stage and screen icon Bette Midler, and singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell.

43rd Kennedy Center Honors (2021 - CBS)

Former Kennedy Center Honoree and renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma performs Bach's "Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, Prélude" in tribute to Midori.

The Kennedy Center Honors is proud to celebrate the 43rd Honorees for lifetime artistic achievements: choreographer and actress Debbie Allen, singer-songwriter and activist Joan Baez, country singer-songwriter Garth Brooks, violinist Midori, and actor Dick Van Dyke.

 

The 2020 Kennedy Center Honors, which traditionally is held in early December each year, was postponed until May 2021 due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing the expanse of the Center’s campus along with virtual events, the 43rd Honors was re-envisioned and presented in a scaled-back and intimate format aesthetically representative of the distinct time the world is living through.
